Welcome to the Gasoline Alley Harley-Davidson Ladies Only Riding Club blog.
My name is Barb Pettie. I’ve been a rider for seven years and on staff at GAHD for nearly three years..
The Garage Parties held by our dealership and others have a tremendous impact on encouraging women to ride and we’ve held three so far. We’re very lucky that The Motor Company recognizes this growing segment of riders and provides opportunities for dealerships to make riding more accessible and fun for women..
One of the biggest hurdles is “time to ride.” Many women don’t feel comfortable using their motorcycle as a day-to-day vehicle, so their riding is restricted to evenings and weekends. If they want a riding partner, often it is a husband who they rely on. But if hubby works away, he might not get time to ride. Or the weather is crappy, or the fence needs fixing…..
So the bike sits in the garage, gathering dust. Eventually it gets put up for sale and a good rider goes back to the b@*#& pad..
Gladys and I thought we should provide a forum where women can go for a ride a couple of times a month with other women. This is open to any women on any brand of motorcycle.
One thing most women are good at is making friends. So here’s an opportunity to meet some new friends who share a common interest! Maybe you’ll meet someone who shares a day off and wants to improve her riding or get more kms on her bike. Maybe some of the ladies will plan a short trip – or even a long one – this summer. Maybe we can learn from each other, more about riding and life..
I guess the three main goals of this group are Confidence, Friendship & Mileage!.
